Navigating the proper permits and environmental compliances can be a daunting task, especially for a small boutique glamping resort on a secluded beach. Over the years, we’ve faced numerous challenges, but through persistence and learning, we’ve developed a proven formula to communicate effectively and ensure timely follow-ups. One strategy that has made a significant difference is taking a proactive approach: instead of waiting for the required inspections, I pick up the local government agency officials and bring them to our site.

After a year of diligently securing various environmental compliances and permits, we were just one step away from full approval—we needed the fire permit. The day I picked up the fire marshals, it felt like a crucial moment. They arrived in military fatigues, and I couldn’t help but feel apprehensive about the inspection. Our resort, with its native-style cogon grass roofs and a significant 10kVA solar system, presented unique challenges. However, to my amazement, the fire marshals were impressed by our fire extinguisher placements and the detailed safety protocols engraved on our power boxes.

They spent a few hours teaching our staff the proper use of fire extinguishers and reviewing safety measures. Their approach was both serious and humorous, making the session informative and engaging. In the end, we were granted our fire permit, a significant milestone for our resort. What stood out most was their appreciation for our efforts to ensure their visit was smooth and efficient. As we drove back to San Vicente, they shared that no one had ever picked them up for an inspection before. It was a testament to the power of community and working together.

This experience reinforced the importance of proactive communication and building strong relationships with local government units. By going the extra mile, we not only secured the necessary permits but also built a rapport that benefits our entire community. It’s these heartfelt interactions and shared efforts that make our journey worthwhile, ensuring our resort remains a safe, compliant, and welcoming haven for all our guests.
